I feel like I do a pretty good job about taking pictures and documenting the things we do, the places we go and all your milestones as they grow up. This year I thought I would add some words (although, bear with me, I am not a great writer). A little about what we have been doing each month, preserving bits of their personality and childhood through my eyes and memories. Also another option for me to reflect how fast time is gowing and to cry happy tears each time I write to them. Geeze, I love these kids.
I am writing to just you this month. You just had your eighth birthday a couple of weeks ago. I can hardly believe you are eight already! I can vividly remember that cold winters day in Anchorage, Alaska when you were born. It was bright and sunny but chilly. We were so excited for your arrival! You were such a gift! I remember the first days you were home with your dad and I – we had no idea what do with you. But we did the best we would an eventually go the hang of it. You were a good baby.
And now look at you! You have grown into such a little man. I love that your mind is so mature and yearns for knowledge on all these cool things (that I get to learn about now) – rockets, volcanoes, ships… so many “boy” topics. I also think it is pretty cool that most of the time you would rather watch Myth Busters and shows on Discovery Channel about animals or cities etc instead of cartoons or other things.
As mature as the subjects you want to earn about are, you are still a silly, happy, active boy! My heart sings when I hear you and your brother playing pretend games, or you just hanging out being goofy; like the rest of us. You have a wonderful sense of humor! You are also becoming a great little role model for Carter. Carter loves you so much! I am glad to see after our talk about how much he does love you, and how much you impact him, that you seem to have tried to lead with a better example and let him love you and express it as he wants.
You are heading down a great path in your life…I am always happy you let me hold your hand and walk with you on it!
I love you Jack!
Now that you have read my letter – check out some other inspiring words to sons from….. Jana.
